A Chapel Hill teen died after the car she was riding in was hit by another on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh early this morning.
Lillian Broox Manis, 17, was riding in a Honda that was struck broadside by a Ford that ran a red light on Lynn Road shortly before 5 a.m., according to a Raleigh police report. The driver of the Honda, Philip Iavorov Jurov, 17, of Durham was seriously injured.
The driver of the Ford, Justin Caleb Crouse, 19, of 4612 Limerick Drive in Raleigh faces several charges as a result of the accident, including felony death by motor vehicle, DWI and running a red light.
Police say Crouse was approaching Glenwood Avenue on Lynn Road when he lost control of his car and ran off the right side of the road, deflating both tires on the right side of his car. He then entered the intersection of Glenwood, hitting the passenger side of the Honda.
Both cars were traveling at about 50 m.p.h. when they collided, according to the police report, and travelled more than 120 feet across Glenwood Avenue. The Honda came to rest on its roof against an embankment, while the Ford remained upright.
Manis was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh, where she subsequently died.
