Durham residents looking to play a more active role in their community can learn how at Durham Neighborhood College sessions this fall.
Applications are now available. The series of classes, co-sponsored by the city and county of Durham, is taught by local government officials, allowing residents to learn about key government operations directly from elected officials and staff.
The deadline to apply is Aug. 1. Classes will be held on nine Thursdays beginning Sept. 11 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and on one Saturday morning. Space is limited to 25 people.
The program costs $30. Five scholarships are available if needed. To learn more or to download an application, visit www.durhamnc.gov or www.durhamcountync.gov; pick up applications at the Durham County clerk to the Board of Commissioners or the city clerk's office, or call 560-4123 or 560-0008.
