Lejeune Marine killed in Afghanistan

A Marine based out of North Carolina was killed while overseas supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

1st Lt. Jason D. Mann, 29, off Woodlynne, N.J. died during a non-hostile incident in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune.

Mann joined the Marine Corps in 1997, training as an Arab Linguist and a Reconnaissance Marine. In 2005, he began training as an officer. He joined his unit in 2006.

His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, two Good Conduct Medals, Iraq Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation and two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons.
