CHAPEL HILL - This week, former Tar Heel basketball player Shammond Williams reported a $10,000 diamond-encrusted watch stolen from his home on Gardner Circle.

Williams plays professional basketball for Pamesa Valencia in Spain but maintains a home in Chapel Hill. A police report says the watch was taken sometime between early February and late May.

Chapel Hill Police Capt. Chris Blue said Williams reported the watch missing at his insurance company's request. Blue said Williams has had many renovation contractors in and out of his house during his absence.

"He's gone for months at a time, so unfortunately it could be any number of people," Blue said.
