The Durham Children's Choir recently made its first international appearance when it toured the United Kingdom from June 25 to July 6. The choir, which has 33 members ages 10 to 16, performed in six concerts including one appearance in South Wales and then five concerts in Durham, England, sister city of Durham, N.C. While in Wales, the choir sang at a memorial concert for the 116 schoolchildren who were killed in the tragedy in the mining village of Aberfan. The choir performed at several schools in northern England and was part of an international concert on July 3, in Elvet Methodist Church, Durham City. The choir is a community choir made up of young singers from Durham and neighboring communities. It was founded in May 2004 by Scott Hill, retired Durham Public Schools choral director.
