CHARLOTTE -- Two former Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers have pleaded guilty Wednesday on drug charges, winning a promise from prosecutors to seek the lowest possible sentence: 10 years in prison.

Gerald Holas and Jason Ross each pleaded guilty to one charge of conspiring to possess with intent to distribute cocaine. The two have resigned from the police force. A U.S. District Court judge could still reject the deal before sentencing.

Prosecutors have said the 35-year-old men helped a suspected drug dealer with information about an impending bust. The two told investigators they were protecting the dealer to get information they could use against his suppliers and customers.

The Mecklenburg County district attorney has said all cases that the officers worked on will be dismissed.
