HENDERSONVILLE -- A North Carolina man accused of murdering his cousin was found dead at his home the day before a motions hearing was scheduled in the case.

The brother of 61-year-old Buford Filmore Snoddy told authorities in a 911 call that his brother had killed himself in his Henderson County home. Theodore Snoddy found his brother's body Wednesday, the Times-News of Hendersonville reported.

Buford Snoddy was charged with first-degree murder in the April 6, 2007, shooting of his cousin, Katherine Hedrick, 47, of Hendersonville. She was found dead at Buford Snoddy's home.

Henderson County Sheriff's spokesman Charlie McDonald said Buford Snoddy died from a gunshot wound outside his home.

McDonald refused to disclose where Snoddy was shot or other details of the investigation. Buford Snoddy had been scheduled to appear Thursday in Henderson County Superior Court.
