GARNER -- An elderly woman living on her own offered two men a glass of water Monday. They, meanwhile, helped themselves to $300 in cash, $100 in coins and at least three prescription drug bottles too, according to Garner police.

The woman, an 84-year-old living on Butler Drive, answered the doorbell to find two men posing as rug salesmen. The men asked for a glass of water. Once inside the house they stole a jar of coins that held $100 and cash from the woman's bedroom totaling $300. They also helped themselves to prescription medicine from the bedroom, including a bottles of Xanax, used for panic attacks, Provigil, a drug used to improve wakefulness, and Tranxene, used to treat anxiety.

Garner police described the men as white and driving a black pickup truck. Call the Garner Police Department to report any information on the suspects: 772-8810.
