DURHAM - Break out those baggies and platform shoes, dust off the human-alphabet moves -- Randy Jones, the original cowboy from the late '70s disco group Village People, will be in town next weekend for the North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.

Jones, originally from Raleigh, will be at the festival Aug. 16 and will present one of the featured films that night, said Aaron Bare, spokesman for The Carolina Theatre, the main venue for the event Aug. 14-17.

So, what has Jones been up to in the decades since "YMCA" and "Macho Man" were hits?

Plenty, according to a news release from Bare -- from films and plays to musicals and a new CD of pop classics delivered in a "worldly and versatile style."

Two eye-catchers: "Sodom: The Musical" and "Bingo City," a musical with Tony award-winner Anita Gillette. Oh, and he toured with Cathy Rigby in "Meet Me in St. Louis" and Ed Ames in "Carousel." Boomers might remember the baritone-voiced Ames as Mingo in the television series "Daniel Boone."

No word on whether Jones will sing signature songs from Village People.
