RALEIGH -- A 19-year-old man was taken to Duke University Hospital on Saturday after he disappeared underwater at Falls Lake.

The man, whom sheriff's deputies did not identify, was playing Frisbee in about 4 1/2 feet of water at the Beaver Dam Recreation Area off Creedmoor Road.

His brother found him underwater, and people on the beach nearby performed first aid on the shore, Sheriff's Capt. W.C. Martin said.

Rescue officials on the scene said the swimmer had a strong pulse when he left by ambulance.
