The N.C. Department of Transportation will close one of two lanes on I-40 West between Exit 289 (Wade Avenue) and the Wade Avenue overpass from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday through Sunday. This closure is part of the ongoing project to rehabilitate a 12.9-mile section of I-440/I-40 from Exit 289 (Wade Avenue) to Exit 301 (I-440/I-40 split). Motorists can expect heavy delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during the lane closure.

There will be no weekday lane closures during construction. At least one lane in each direction will remain open at all times. Work on the $8.5 million project was awarded to S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson and completion is set for August. All work is weather permitting. For more project information, visit the project Web site.

The speed limit will be 55 miles per hour during lane closures and 65 mph at all other times.
