The owner of a shuttered downtown Raleigh restaurant pleaded guilty Tuesday to failing to pay his taxes.
Mark Valentine, president of Yancey's! Inc., pleaded guilty to one count each of failing to pay state sales and use tax and withholding taxes. Yancey's, a popular restaurant on Fayetteville Street, closed recently.
Valentine, who lives in Wendell, received a 45-day suspended sentence and 36 months of supervised probation. He must also pay $31,213 in restitution and court costs.
Valentine failed to pay the taxes between November, 2007 and January. The department of revenue's Raleigh Collection Office investigated the incident.
