A Raleigh teen who led police on a two-hour chase across a southern Wake County golf course was in jail today in lieu of $265,000 bond.
Michael Raymond Schumpelt, 16, was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods, possession of a firearm by a felon, and assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.
Schumpelt is also charged with violating his probation in his conviction a month ago of felony attempted breaking-and-entering.
The Wake County Sheriff’s Office says Schumpelt rammed into one of its deputy’s cars on Wednesday. A state trooper spotted Schumpelt and gave chase, until Schumpelt stopped his car on Ten-Ten Road and fled on foot across Eagle Ridge Golf Club, authorities said.
Sheriff's deputies, state troopers, and Fuquay-Varina and Garner police officers pursued him with a squadron of golf carts. With the help of a police dog, Schumpelt was eventually caught in the woods.
