Johnston County discharged about 4,000 gallons of untreated wastewater from the county's pump station Wednesday, the county announced Friday.

The pump station is on Old Roberts Road near McGee's Crossroads. The discharge lasted for about an hour. About 3,000 gallons of untreated wastewater were discharged into Big Beaver Dam Branch.

A pipe failure caused the spill. The sewer line was repaired and the area cleaned. The county pumped about 8,000 gallons from Big Beaver Dam Branch and discharged it back into the sanitary sewer system.
