RALEIGH -- A Wake County jury today convicted former state Rep. Thomas Wright of felony obstruction of justice.

Judge Donald Stephens sentenced Wright to six to eight months in prison, to run concurrently with a prison term Wright already is serving for fraud. He is scheduled for release from prison May 31, 2015.

Wright's lawyer, Doug Harris, said he intends to appeal.

Stephens announced the verdict at 11:53 a.m., after the jury deliberated two and a half hours Tuesday and this morning.

Wright, a New Hanover County Democrat, was convicted of failing to disclose $150,350 in campaign contributions as well as other irregularities in his campaign finances.

He was expelled from the legislature in March, becoming the first North Carolina lawmaker since the 19th century to be expelled from office.
