• State ferry routes, except the Hatteras-Ocracoke route, were suspended at dark Friday. Service may resume today.
• The sixth annual 5K Run for Healthier Babies in Morrisville is postponed until Sunday. All start times will remain the same as originally scheduled for today. Participants should check www.run4babies.org for additional updates.
• Cape Fear National Seashore will be closed to visitors, and all services are shut down until further notice.
• The Wake County Public School System canceled all school-related activities, including community use of schools, for today.
• The yard sale to benefit the Benson-based Adolescent and Animal Resource Fund and children at risk has been postponed until Sept. 13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Singing Grove park in downtown Benson.
• Carolina Ballet's "Nutcracker" auditions scheduled for today have been postponed until 1 p.m. Sunday at the Carolina Ballet studio at 3401 Atlantic Ave. in Raleigh. For information, go to www. carolinaballet.com or call 719-0800, ext. 401.

• The Iron Chef competition set for today at the North Hills Farmers Market in Raleigh has been rescheduled for Sept. 20. The public can buy $5 tickets to taste the dishes. Proceeds benefit the Interfaith Food Shuttle. The Farmers Market that would normally take place today has been canceled.
• Wake County's ninth annual Mutt Strutt has been rescheduled for Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Historic Oak View Park, 4028 Carya Drive, Raleigh. The event was originally planned for today.
