HOLLY SPRINGS -- Tropical Storm Hanna has forced the cancellation of a ceremony this morning marking the opening of three new town soccer fields in Holly Springs.

The fields were built on about seven acres owned by Rex Healthcare off Avent Ferry Road on the east side of N.C. 55. Rex, which plans to build an outpatient care center next door, is allowing the town to use the land at no cost.

The town spent about $25,000 building the fields. Len Bradley, the town's parks and recreation director, approached Rex about using the land -- farm fields that Bradley thought would make an excellent spot for soccer fields.

Mayor Dick Sears was scheduled to kick out the first ball this morning. The official opening will be rescheduled.
