Judy Wicks, a leader in the local living economies movement, will give the Center for Environmental Farming Systems' 2008 Sustainable Agriculture Lecture, at 7 p.m. Sept. 16, at the N.C. Museum of History in downtown Raleigh.

Wicks founded Philadelphia's White Dog Cafe, which gets its produce in season from local, organic farms, all meat and poultry from places that use humane practices, and all seafood from sustainable fisheries. In 2001, she co-founded Business Alliance for Local Living Economies, to support the concept that local businesses can be profitable while fostering social and environmental consciousness.
