Quilts to go on auction for charity

The Capital Quilters Guild, a Raleigh-based nonprofit that promotes the art of quilting through community involvement, will hold its inaugural Heritage Day Quilt Auction on Oct. 4. The auction will begin at 2 p.m. at Raleigh's Historic Oak View County Park. It will feature more than 80 quilts donated by guild members.

Proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina and the Capital Quilters Guild of Raleigh. Professional auctioneer Cheri Faux will lead the auction. For more information, visit www.capitalquilters.org.

A "Create-A-Pepper" community event and fundraiser will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Chili's Grill & Bar, 11380 Capital Blvd., Wake Forest. The event will include a visit by "Stormy," the Carolina Hurricanes mascot; a tae kwon do demonstration; and child identity kits. Part of the proceeds will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The town of Garner will hold its fall "Litter Sweep" beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Lake Benson Park, 921 Buffaloe Road, Garner. Volunteers will receive a free T-shirt and all supplies.
