4 get awards from program for seniors' insurance information

The Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program of the state Department of Insurance recently presented four awards. The program offers free information about Medicare, Medicare prescription drug coverage, Medicare Advantage and long-term care insurance.

* Nancy Wright with Harnett County RSVP was named SHIIP Coordinator of the Year. She counseled 499 beneficiaries and reached 11,000 people through her SHIIP outreach events.

* Onslow Senior Services in Onslow County was named SHIIP County of the Year. This site and volunteers provided more than 840 hours of volunteer service to clients in their county.

* Serena Sellers of the program's Columbus County office was named Mickey Hanula Volunteer of the Year. She counseled 299 beneficiaries and held 19 outreach events or workshops in Columbus County.

* Dennis Streets, director of the state Division of Aging and Adult Services, received the Jim Long Outstanding SHIIP Service Award. The award cited Streets' hours of work with SHIIP's state office and his service as an advocate of the program and senior services.
