RALEIGH -- Raleigh police were investigating two separate shooting incidents Thursday night, including one that left an apparent suspect dead following the attempted robbery of a Hispanic convenience store west of downtown.
Investigators believe that the man found dead inside the Tienda Hispana Mi Barrio II shop at 3913 Western Blvd had been trying to rob it shortly before 8:30 p.m., according to a statement released by Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue.
No other information about the victim or the shooting incident has been released this morning.
About the same time that officers were headed to Tienda Hispana's strip shopping center following reports of shots fired, two people were wounded in an unrelated shooting incident northeast of downtown off New Bern Avenue.
A 49-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were shot in an incident near the intersection of Cross and Fisher streets at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday. The two victims were transported to WakeMed Raleigh Campus. According to an update on the shooting e-mailed by Sughrue at 1:30 a.m. today, the victims' injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
No other information on the shootings were immediately available.
