Traffic is flowing on Capital Boulevard again today now that a detour set up after an early morning crash has been removed, police said.
The driver involved in the crash toppled an overhead sign onto southbound lanes of Capital Boulevard, temporarily slowing traffic near the Wade Avenue exit, police said.
Paul Daniel Ashworth, 32, of 2511-203 Cedar Forest Way, Raleigh, was charged with DWI and driving with license revoked following the 2:17 a.m. crash. A police report said that Ashworth lost control of his 1994 Acura and drifted over the left curb while trying to regain control.
"The vehicle skidded sideways into an overhead sign structure support, causing the overhead structure to collapse onto the roadway," the report said.
Ashworth registered a .13 on a blood alcohol test following the crash and told police he drank several beers before driving, the report said. An EMS crews took a passenger to WakeMed with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
