HOLLY SPRINGS -- A charity golf tournament turned into one golfer's lucky day Monday.

James Foley hit a 165-yard hole-in-one on the 18th hole at Devils Ridge Golf Club and won $1 million, the club's pro said Tuesday.

Foley was one of ten golfers chosen for a "shootout" hole-in-one challenge. His 165-yard shot with a 7-iron landed on the upper part of the 18th green and, as he watched, rolled back 10 feet into the hole, said club pro Ray Reyes.

"It was amazing," said Reyes, who, as the club's PGA pro, was the official witness. "He jumped up ... he started running up the fairway."

"That's a pretty good hit for a 7-iron," Reyes said.

Monday's tournament was a charity event sponsored by the Outback Steakhouse chain to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the pro said.

Efforts to reach Foley were unsuccessful Tuesday.
