U.S. Rep. David Price, whose district includes a large part of the Triangle, on Monday toured security sites in New York City, met with N.Y. Gov. David Paterson and stopped for dinner with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the city's police commissioner.

Price was in New York in his role as chairman of the House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee. According to an announcement from his office, Price was part of a delegation that also included N.Y. Reps. Steve Israel, Nita Lowey and Peter King.

The group visited Grand Central Terminal and toured infrastructure sites by helicopter. Finding ways to protect New Yorkers and residents of other major urban areas is a critical part of homeland security efforts, Price said.

New York recently received $29.5 million in federal funds through the Securing the Cities Initiative, which is designed to prevent a radiological or nuclear attack on high-risk metropolitan areas.
