RALEIGH -- The Raleigh Christmas Parade starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Now in its 63rd year, the parade will feature dozens of bands, floats, super-sized balloons, marchers, twirlers, entertainers and a special surprise at the end of the parade, according to a media release on the city's Web site.

The 1.2-mile parade route starts at Hillsborough and St. Mary’s streets. The parade then travels east on Hillsborough Street, turns south at the Capitol on Salisbury Street, east on Morgan and then makes a final turn onto Fayetteville Street.

Many downtown streets will be closed for the parade.

Parade watchers will want to bundle up and bring some hot cocoa because it's expected to be cold. The National Weather Service forecast says there will be increasing clouds Saturday with a high near 44. Northwest wind will be between 5 and 10 mph.
