State Highway Patrol Trooper Andrew Stocks, who died in a car wreck in September, was buried today in Arlington National Cemetery.

Stocks died Sept. 9 on his way to help those involved in a car accident near Wake Technical Community College when he slid into the path of a garbage truck.

Stocks died in an ambulance as emergency workers rushed him to the hospital.

Stocks grew up in Wake County and graduated from Cary High School in 1983. He joined the Highway Patrol in April 2004 after leaving the military, where he had served as a Marine in Afghanistan and with the U.S. Army Reserve in Iraq. He and his wife, Liane, have one child.

A memorial fund has been established for Stocks' family at the State Employees Credit Union. Donations to the fund, "Liane G. Stocks to Benefit the Family of Trooper A.J. Stocks," may be mailed to: NCSECU, Attention Sherri Cannady, P.O. Box 450, Garner, NC 27529
