RALEIGH -- Usually people come to Krispy Kreme looking for some sugary indulgence.

But last night, someone came in looking for something more valuable: money.

The landmark Raleigh location became a crime scene when a man tried to make off with a drawer from a cash register at 8 p.m. Monday.

A man walked into the Peace Street eatery and spent a few minutes before reaching behind a counter and grabbing the drawer, said Jim Sughrue, a Raleigh police spokesman.

“He physically took it,” Sughrue said.

No one was injured.

He then ran out and was spotted running on North Bloodworth Street by Raleigh police officer S.W. Brown and Cpl. S.A. Asato.

They managed to arrest him and found the drawer, which had been thrown to the side with the money still inside the case.

David Lavon Bush, 37, is now facing a charge of common law robbery.

This is not the first time the downtown doughnut shop has been targeted. In March, a 15-foot truck with boxes of hot, glazed doughnuts painted on its side panels, was taken from the store.

When it was recovered a few days later, police found plenty of sweets inside: chocolate cookies, a partially eaten cake and even doughnuts, though they were another brand.
