Wake county residents can recycle holiday trash

Wake County's Holiday Wrap Up Recycling Event will collect a variety of celebration waste, including trees, wrapping paper, gift boxes, greeting cards and television sets.

Residents may drop off Christmas trees, corrugated cardboard; chip cardboard, like paper roll tubes, cereal boxes, glossy magazines, greeting cards, shirt boxes and wrapping paper at the five centers listed below, any day through Monday, January 19 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

9008 Deponie Drive in North Raleigh

5051 Wendell Boulevard between Wendell and Zebulon

Residents can recycle their Christmas trees at the following Wake County Parks through January 19, from 8 a.m.to 5:30 p.m.

Blue Jay Point County Park – 3200 Pleasant Union Church Road in Raleigh

Harris Lake County Park – 2112 County Park Drive in New Hill

Lake Crabtree County Park – 1400 Aviation Parkway in Morrisville

Last year 3,381 trees were collected through the Holiday Wrap Up Program. The goal is to collect more trees this year, according to a Wake County press release. Christmas trees are chipped and used as cover material for county park trails.

For the lucky ones who got the flat screen TV and need to junk the 1980's TV, you can recycle television sets year-round at Wake County's Multi-Material Recycling Facilities. The locations listed below are open Monday – Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

North Wake Multi-Material Recycling Facility – 9029 Deponie Drive in Raleigh

South Wake Multi-Material Recycling Facility – 6130 Old Smithfield Road in Apex

The Town of Cary will also recycle Christmas trees for its residents.

Cary’s curbside collection begins Tuesday at 7 a.m. Trees left at curb should not cover fire hydrants, sidewalks, or water meters. Trees not collected during this first sweep will be accepted as regular yard waste beginning Jan. 12.

Cary residents can also take trees to drop-off sites now through Jan. 12.
