Lejeune Marine dies in Afghanistan

CAMP LEJEUNE -- A North Carolina-based Marine has been killed in Afghanistan.
Lance Cpl. Alberto Francesconi, 21, of the Bronx, N.Y., died Jan. 1 in Helmand province, according to a Department of Defense release.
The military said Francesconi died supporting combat operations, but details of the incident were not released.

Francesconi was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Lejeune.
