The state Department of Transportation today will close a U.S. 1/Beltline exit ramp in southwest Raleigh for drain pipe repairs that will detour traffic for four weeks.
The affected ramp is Exit 1B, which takes southbound drivers on U.S. 1 and the Interstate 440 Outer Beltline onto westbound I-40.
Some drivers will find it easier to exit the Outer Beltline at Wade Avenue or Western Boulevard before they reach the affected interchange.
Detours will be marked at the interchange, routing Beltline drivers around three cloverleaf loops to get to I-40 west.
“I feel like the detour we’re going to have posted will be a very minimal impact to the traffic,” said Steve Halsey, DOT maintenance engineer for Wake County.
