Southern Living ranks Duke Gardens in top 10

DURHAM -- Sarah P. Duke Gardens was named one of the top 10 public gardens in Southern Living magazine's Readers' Choice Awards.

Asheville's Biltmore Gardens was also on the list in the January issue.

Based at Duke University, Sarah P. Duke Gardens is a 55-acre site that includes an Asiatic arboretum, a garden of native plants and Italian terraces, according to a release from Duke Gardens. A new children's garden is planned.

The garden will celebrate its 75th anniversary this year.

More than 300,000 people visit the garden each year to stroll, attend lectures or take guided tours or classes.

Admission is free. The garden is open every day.
