RALEIGH — A father is accused of assaulting his six-month-old child so severely that the baby required hospitalization for at least two days.

Demetrius Rahim Crudup, 26, of Chancellorsville Court was arrested Friday by Wake County deputies. Charged with child abuse and assault by strangulation, Crudup remained at the Wake County jail on a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to face a judge Monday morning.

Crudup allegedly assaulted the child on Wednesday, "resulting in bruising and abrasions about the neck from strangulation that caused the interruption of air so that the infant stopped voluntarily breathing and lost consciousness," an arrest warrant said. The child's sex was not disclosed.

Crudup is alleged to have done this intentionally, according to the warrant.
