Raleigh endorses climate agreement

closeRALEIGH -- Raleigh on Tuesday became the 20th North Carolina municipality to endorse the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement.
The City Council voted 7-1 in favor of signing the agreement, which commits the city to taking steps to reduce pollution thought to cause global warming.
The council also voted to join the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives, which is committed to sustainable development. Membership, which costs $2,800 annually, will give the city access to software to help it record its greenhouse gas emissions.
