HOLLY SPRINGS -
Hot weather and drought have fostered the growth of algae that release compounds affecting taste and odor of drinking water, town officials said in a press release Friday.The release said some residents may notice that their drinking water has an earthy or musty taste and smell but that the water is safe to drink. The taste and odor should improve within days, the release said.Steps to reduce or eliminate the compounds have been taken at Harnett County's water treatment plant, which provides most of Holly Springs' drinking water, the press release stated.Those with questions about Holly Springs' drinking water can contact Amy Moore, laboratory analyst for the Town's Public Utilities Department, at 577-2273.
