An illegal immigrant who drove drunk in Rowan County has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of a pregnant woman.

A jury handed down the verdict for Rigo Verto Guillen-Martinez, who federal investigators have said is in the United States illegally from El Salvador.

Police have said he had a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit when he slammed into 20-year-old Leeanna Newman's Saturn on Feb. 6 in Landis. Newman and her unborn baby died a short time later. Her 21-month-old daughter was in a car seat and suffered minor injuries.

Guillen-Martinez's attorney had argued that his client couldn't be guilty of murder because there was no malice in his actions.

Guillen-Martinez will be sentenced today. He could receive up to 30 years in prison.
