RALEIGH -- Police charged a man this week with forcing a woman from a downtown home and raping her repeatedly over a two-day period in a wooded area, court records show.

Police charged Dannie Thomas Goldston, 49, Wednesday with five counts of first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sex offense and one count each of first-degree kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon and assault inflicting serious injury, according to a search warrant made public Thursday.

On Sept. 17, police arrived at WakeMed after receiving a report that a woman had been kidnapped and raped repeatedly. Police were able to link Goldston to the crime after he was identified as a suspect in a stabbing that was related to the rape, court records show.

Police also learned that Goldston had a previous relationship with the victim, according to the warrant.

It is the policy of The News & Observer to not identify the victims of a sexual offense.

On Sept. 15, the victim told police she went to "hang out" with a friend. During the night, the victim woke up and found Goldston stabbing the friend.

She told police Goldston then forcibly grabbed her and took her from the residence on Hillsborough Street near Glenwood Avenue to an unknown location in the woods, where he repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted her for two days. The woman told police Goldston shattered her teeth and then forced her to perform oral sex.

The victim told police Goldston released her Sept. 17. She contacted family members and was taken to WakeMed, according to the warrant.

The Raleigh Police Department's Fugitive Task Force started searching for Goldston soon after he was identified in both the rape and stabbing cases. Investigators found him at the Wendell address Wednesday. Police obtained a warrant to search the home for the suspect after he failed to come out.

After Goldston's arrest, police used a second search warrant to gather a suspect rape kit that consisted of saliva, head and pubic hair.

Goldston is in custody at the Wake County jail under $3 million bail, a jail spokeswoman said this afternoon.
