Skateboarder dies after collision with car

RALEIGH -- The Apex skateboarder who was struck by a car Saturday night on Hillsborough Street died this morning, Raleigh police said.

John Randolph Buchanan Jr., 16, died at WakeMed Raleigh campus after he rode his skateboard against the light into four lanes of traffic about 10 p.m. Saturday and was struck by a 1993 Honda.

According to the accident report, the Honda driver had a green light when he crossed the intersection.

The accident, which was near the intersection with Horne Street, shut down traffic on HIllsborough Street for 90 minutes in each direction Saturday.

Charges have not been filed against the driver of the Honda.
