CHAPEL HILL - Chapel Hill police are looking for a burglar with a head injury.

Police were called to a burglary in progress about 3:20 a.m. Friday at 329 Tenny Circle, officials said in a news release. But when they arrived, the thief escaped through a glass door, receiving a severe cut to the scalp and leaving a lot of blood on the rear patio and a trail of blood leading toward North Street.

About two hours later, a resident at 606 North St. awoke to find that someone had entered the home and left behind a large amount of blood in the hall and kitchen areas. The burglar stole a 2004 Acura MDX and a cell phone, police said.

Police did not provide a description of the burglar. But they think the burglar might have sought medical care and urged officials at urgent care centers or hospitals to call if they think they may have treated the person.

Police asked that anyone with information call the Police Department at 968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at 942-7515. Anyone providing information that leads to an arrest may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,200.
