CHARLOTTE -- Two students were arrested during a protest at Duke Energy Corporation's headquarters in Charlotte.

Police say 21-year-old Nina Otter and 18-year-old Meagan Goodman were arrested after they chained themselves to the front doors. They attend Warren Wilson college in Swannanoa.

They were among 15 people who drove from the Asheville area today to protest Duke Energy's plans to build a $2.4 billion coal-fired power unit at its Cliffside facility.

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police spokesman says the students were charged with trespassing, disorderly conduct and resisting a public officer.

Duke Energy chief executive Jim Rogers points out Duke's plans for energy efficiency programs and future purchases of energy from renewable sources.
