New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer is married to a North Carolina native and Meredith College graduate, Silda Wall Spitzer.
Silda Spitzer, of Concord, earned her undergraduate degree from Meredith in 1980 with double majors in English and history. She has returned to speak in recent years at the Raleigh campus.
Silda Spitzer received a law degree from Harvard and was a corporate lawyer before she became first lady.
She has served as president of the Children for Children Foundation, a not-for-profit organization she co-founded in 1996. The focus of the organization is to provide critical services and material to schools in underserved communities of New York.
Most recently, she has advocated energy efficiency and led an initiative to encourage young professionals to remain in New York.
The Spitzers married in 1987 and have three teenage daughters.
