Two killed when freight train hits car in Morrisville

Authorities say two people have died after their car was struck by a freight train near Aviation Parkway and Chapel Hill Road in Morrisville Friday night,.

Authorities say two people have died after their car was struck by a freight train in Wake County.

Investigators told local media outlets that the car was stopped on the tracks in Morrisville around 10 p.m. Friday and appeared to get stuck between the stop arms on the crossing signal as the train approached and could not get out of the way.

Authorities say both people in the car were from Southern Pines. Their names have not been released.

The incident remains under investigation.
