A motorist was killed after a pickup truck and electric utility truck collided at the intersection of Anderson Drive and Six Forks Road on Thursday afternoon.
The accident took place about 2:50 p.m., when a white Ford pickup truck driven by Toryally Paktiawal, 43, was traveling south on Six Forks Road and collided with a United Electric Company utility truck driven by Phillip Travis Smith, 26, who was attempting to make a left turn onto Anderson Drive.
That initial impact caused Paktiawal’s vehicle to collide with a 2005 Jeep Cherokee driven by John Allen Remling, 77, and occupied by Jane Cook Remling, 78. The Remling’s vehicle had been stopped on Anderson Drive at the intersection.
Paktiawal was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith was taken to Rex Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Remlings were not injured.
Patricia Smith, owner and president of the Benson utility company, Smith had just completed one job involving the repair of electric utility poles and was headed to another when the crash occurred.
