RALEIGH The entrance ramp from Gorman Street onto westbound Interstate 40 will be closed through the weekend for construction, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Workers will tear up and rebuild the entrance ramp at Exit 295 as part of the ongoing Fortify project to replace deteriorating pavement on the Beltline across the south side of Raleigh. Workers did the same thing to both exit ramps at Gorman Street in recent weeks.
Work on the westbound ramp is scheduled to begin about 6 p.m. Thursday and is expected to be completed in time to reopen it for rush hour on Monday morning, DOT says. On Thursday night, starting about 9 p.m., the right lane of westbound I-40 also will be closed so workers can close off the entrance ramp with concrete barriers.
Detour signs will send drivers to the Lake Wheeler Road entrance to I-40. The eastbound entrance ramp from Gorman Street onto I-40 will remain open, as will the two exit ramps.
