Two people walking on the Durham Freeway early Sunday were hit by an SUV and seriously hurt, and charges were pending against the driver, police said.
According to police, Chase Etienne Tripp, 25, and J.C. Justice III, 27, who both live in Durham were on the Freeway, N.C. 147, near the Briggs Avenue interchange about 3:45 a.m. when the GMC Yukon struck them.
The Yukon left the scene, police said, but they found it on Bedford Street later. They said it was driven by Elijahio Taylor Jr., 18, of Durham.
Officers planned to file charges in connection with the accident, police said. They added, however, that neither speed nor alcohol contributed to it.
Tripp was reported to be in critical condition at Duke University Hospital on Sunday afternoon, police said. They reported Tripp’s condition only as stable.
