The State Highway Patrol said a Wake County school bus with only the driver aboard was hit head-on Wednesday morning by a car that drifted across the center line of Horton Road about a half-mile from Knightdale Elementary School and Knightdale High School.
A second car crashed into a highway sign when it swerved to avoid the wreck, High Patrol Sgt. Michael Baker said.
The crash happened near 1516 Horton Road at approximately 9:23 a.m., officials said.
Wake County Public School System officials confirmed that there were no students on the bus at the time, but it was immediately known where the bus was headed or where it was coming from.
Baker said a northbound car drifts across the center of Horton Road and hit the southbound bus. Two people in the car received minor injuries, troopers at the scene reported.
The second car had been northbound behind the first car.
There was no immediate word from troopers on what they thought caused the collision or whether any charges would be filed.
