The ramp from Fairview Road to southbound Capital Boulevard will close Sunday night and remain closed for the duration of the bridge replacement project at Wade Avenue, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.
The closure will begin, weather permitting, between 9 p.m. and midnight on Sunday, Dec. 18. This will allow for construction work for the new bridge at the Wade Avenue exit off northbound Capital Boulevard, which is expected to be completed in late spring or early summer.
The inside lane on southbound Capital Boulevard under the Wade Avenue bridge also will be closed from 9 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday to allow for the installation of a barrier wall.
Drivers on Fairview Road will be able to access southbound Capital Boulevard by detouring slightly right from the ramp onto an access road and turning left to a stop sign before turning right.
Construction of the bridge and new ramps will be completed next to the existing structure to allow it to remain open for most of the construction time.
This is part of a $36.9 million project to replace two aging bridges on Capital Boulevard, including one over Peace Street, which was built in 1948. The replacement of the Peace Street bridge is not expected to start until late spring or early summer.
