A FedEx tractor-trailer truck overturned in the construction zone on eastbound Interstate 40 in south Raleigh shortly before 10 a.m. Friday, bringing traffic there to a halt.
The crash happened between Gorman Street and Lake Dam Road, and forced police close eastbound I-40 at U.S. 1. The tractor-trailer blocked all three eastbound lanes, backing up traffic for several miles.
The concrete barriers set up for the rebuilding project across the southern Beltline made it difficult to get traffic moving until the truck was righted and the lanes cleared. Authorities had the truck upright by noon, but it took another hour to clear debris and repair the concrete-barrier wall.
The driver of the truck was not seriously injured.
