West Millbrook Road will remain closed at Shelley Lake through the weekend as the city works to replace the sewer pipe that collapsed under the road last week.
A sinkhole opened up in the westbound lanes of West Millbrook last Wednesday afternoon, forcing authorities to close the road. The 12-by-12-foot hole was created when a 24-inch diameter concrete sewer pipe under the pavement caved in.
City officials decided to close the road in both directions to replace that section of pipe, which had been installed in 1973.
The city had expected to finish the work and reopen the road Monday. But because of underground utilities in the area and heavy rain on Monday evening, the work is taking longer than expected, according to city officials.
Never miss a local story.
They hope to have it done by Monday morning, June 12.
In the meantime, the following detours remain in place:
▪ Drivers headed westbound on West Millbrook by Shelley Lake will turn right on North Hills Drive, left on Lynn Road, left on Lead Mine Road and right on West Millbrook.
▪ Drivers traveling eastbound on West Millbrook by Shelley Lake will turn left on Lead Mine Road, right on Lynn Road, right on North Hills Drive, and left on West Millbrook.
