Transportation and public utility officials have established a series of detours to accommodate motorists on one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares, where a water main ruptured near downtown early Monday.
Crews are expected to work over the next 24 hours to repair the water line break on Capital Boulevard that closed the southbound section of the road from Wake Forest Road to Fairview Road.
Motorists traveling on southbound Capital Boulevard will be diverted onto Old Louisburg Road, just south of Tillery Place. Drivers can then go north or south on Atlantic Avenue.
The water main has also closed the exit for southbound Capital Boulevard from southbound Atlantic Avenue. Motorists can use Atlantic Avenue to travel into downtown.
Motorists traveling south on Wake Forest Road onto southbound Capital Boulevard are being detoured on to northbound Capital Boulevard.
Motorists can access Atlantic Avenue from Capital Boulevard.
