A Raleigh man was charged with driving while impaired after state troopers say he crossed the center line on Poole Road and collided head-on with a Wake County sheriff’s deputy Friday morning.
Neither the driver, Carlos Alberto Moya of 1800 Fountain Drive, nor the deputy were seriously injured.
The accident took place shortly after 6 a.m. According to the State Highway Patrol, deputy Joseph Samuel Coley was going westbound on Poole Road near Grasshopper Road when an oncoming Kia Sedona mini van crossed the center line. Coley quickly slowed down, turned on his blue lights and attempted to move to the far right to avoid a collision, troopers say, but the Kia hit his Dodge Charger head-on.
Both drivers were taken to WakeMed in Raleigh, where Moya, 56, was listed in stable condition Friday. Coley’s injuries were minor, according to the Highway Patrol.
In addition to DWI, Moya was cited with driving left of center, failing to wear a seatbelt and failing to comply with a driver’s license restriction.
